Red Pike - Route One


 
Start - Overbeck Bridge NY 167 068 Distance - 3.25 miles Ascent - 2,590 feet Time - 2 hours : 35 minutes

 

 

The small National Trust car park by Overbeck Bridge is the starting point for this walk.  A footpath from the top right end corner of the car park follows the course of Over Beck

Either continue with the path alongside Over Beck or pass through the hand gate and climb to the base of Yewbarrow's south ridge where a stile over the ridgeline fence gives access to a higher path above Over Beck which has better views

Over the stile, the walkers path to Yewbarrow initially follows the wall before traversing across towards the rock gully between Dropping Crag and Bell Rib which is then followed up to Great Door 
The path to Red Pike continues straight ahead from the stile traversing across the steep south-western flank of Yewbarrow

The paths merge as they approach a handgate in the intake wall which gives access to a footbridge across Over Beck

The path continues along the eastern slopes of High Fell which forms part of of Red Pike's broad south ridge.  The south top of Red Pike with Gosforth Crag and Great Knott dominating the view ahead
