The route via Warnscale starts a short distance from Gatesgarth Farm along the road towards Honister Pass where a rough track leads off towards Warnscale Bottom. This is the start of the old road to Dubs Quarry

Warnscale Bottom looking towards Green Crag.  The Dubs Quarry road can be seen rising to the left (north) of Warnscale Beck.  The path to Haystacks crosses the beck and climbs below Green Crag.  It was created to serve a small quarry on the south side of Warnscale Beck

The path wends its way over a rugged area of heather studded with rocky tors and tarns towards the summit of Haystacks
This is a fascinating place to explore when the mist is down
Blackbeck Tarn, the largest of the tarns on Haystacks
Beyond Blackbeck Tarn the path makes a steep rising traverse on a shelf above Black Beck
