The National Trust car park next to the Old Dungeon Ghyll Hotel is the starting point for this walk |
Opposite the entrance to the car park a gate gives access to a short path which joins the access road to Stool End Farm |

Looking back to the Langdale Pikes |
The track ends at a large sheep pen. A path passes through the left side of the pen and crosses a footbridge over Oxendale Beck |
There had been some storms and high winds recently, but it was a bit of a surprise to find the substantial footbridge lying on its side |
The foundations of the bridge were shattered and its holding down bolts bent and pulled out of the ground |
From the footbridge the path climbs across the northern slopes of Pike o' Blisco towards the col below Brown Howe |
Crinkle Crags fom the path to Brown Howe |
Looking back along Oxendale Beck towards Great Langdale |
The path has been stone-pitched along much of its length |

Red Tarn from the col between Pike o' Blisco and Cold Pike |
Cold Pike from the col. The steep and craggy north-east slope makes a direct climb from the col an unattractive proposition. It's much easier to make use of the excellent path to Crinkle Crags seen here rising to the right |
Great Knott, Crinkle Crags and Bowfell from the col between Pike o' Blisco and Cold Pike |

Looking down on Browney Gill. The ascent path can be seen above the gill, rising from Brown How col and crossing the slope below Black Wars |
Looking across the crags of Great Knott to Glaramara |
The first 'crinkle' of Crinkle Crags comes into view and it's almost time to turn left off the path to begin the climb of Cold Pike's north-west slope |
The climb begins from a large cairn adjacent to the first feeder stream of Browney Gill |
Looking across to the Langdale Pikes |
The lower part of the path is very indistinct as it crosses some wet ground but it soon becomes clearer as height is gained |
Looking back to Crinkle Crags which were being swept by heavy showers of hail |
The summit of Cold Pike comes into view |
