| Binsey from the Keswick - Carlisle road near the start of the walk |
| Almost opposite the road junction to Scalegill Farm, about a third of a mile north of Bewaldeth, a lane through the fields gives access to the open fellside and is the start of the walk. There is parking on a loop of the old road near the junction |
| Although deserted today the lane is often full of sheep and cattle which like to shelter amongst the trees that line much of its length |
| West Crag on Binsey dominates the approach along the lane |
| After passing through a gate the lane becomes more open as it rises towards the intake wall |
| Looking back from the intake wall |
| Above the wall the path heads half left towards what AW describes as a gravel pit |
| The gravel pit is now almost entirely overgrown, the path sweeps around it and continues its course above it |
| Looking back to Bassenthwaite Lake from the gravel pit |
| The main path continues straight on to gain the ridge behind West Crag an easy, but dull, way to reach the summit. Above a stunted tree another path branches off it and climbs towards West Crag |
| Opposite the lowest rocks of the crag the path turns to climb over its lower part to an easy grass slope above the rocky face |

| The summit is now in view seen here above the low point on the horizon |
